Born in 1967 in Prince George County, Maryland.

Due to his father's position in the Navy, the family moved around the country and Joe's early experiences spanned from the beautiful scenery of Hawaii, adventures in the California desert, and the cultured bay scenery of Maryland.  During the years at school Joe discovered his passion for art and developed his painting skills. While in high school he participated in the Maryland Gifted and Talented Program and received the National Academy Achievement Award for Art. While still in high school he attended classes at Maryland College of Art and Design.

Graduated from Maryland Institute College Of Art in 1990 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Painting

True self-discovery as an artist started while studying in MICA, where Joe was surrounded by inspiring friends and faculty and he developed lasting relationships that shaped his future path as a painter. One of the first commissions after  graduating was a reproduction of Michelangelo Sistine Chapel mural on the ceiling of Mt. Royal Tavern, one of the landmarks of local art community.

Freelancing Work

For over 20 years Joe was a freelance mural artist, commissioned by museums, hospitals, restaurants and various commercial developers and designers.  Joe produced a myriad of murals and custom canvas pieces that are showcased across the United States. At the same time Joe continued to produce and exhibit his personal fine art paintings.

Back to the Roots

In 2010 Joe, now married and raising 3 boys, moved to Tega Cay, South Carolina area to be closer to his large family.  Currently he is concentrating on producing personal fine art paintings and is actively involved with the local artist community. His previous experiences and inspirations are more focused than ever to capture the beauty of suspense in life.

I would define my style as modern classical.  I'm interested in  life's little dramas. Using allegory and symbolism there evolves a  suspension of disbelief. Drawing the viewer in and along a storyline. I'm interested in tapping into the collective unconscious so each individual viewer forms their own personal narrative from  the piece. I strive for a contrast between a calm and uneasy with a pensive quality, the instance before the event.
